Real moments. Real people.

The resume can wait. These are the moments that actually shaped me — and probably tell you more than a job title ever could.

01

A visa crisis

When the rules wouldn't bend — but kindness could.

I remember a particular afternoon when a woman came to me, distressed, because her visa wouldn't allow her entry into Warsaw. Despite how difficult the situation was, I kept a calm presence, listened deeply, and worked with her to explore every possible option. I handed her over to a specialized immigration team who could assist with either a ticket change or a smooth exit back to her home country.

I gave her time to think, suggesting she speak to her friends in Warsaw about adjusting their plans. While I never learned her final decision, I was proud that I stayed empathetic, provided clear solutions, and ensured she had support to navigate this challenge.

02

The wrong terminal

An elderly passenger, a boarding flight, and a moment to step in.

While working at the airport, I noticed an elderly passenger who had mistakenly gone to the wrong terminal while her flight was already boarding. Although assisting her wasn't part of my direct job responsibilities, my instincts immediately told me to step in and take initiative. Using my access to the gate supervisor through Teams, I quickly contacted him, shared the passenger's details, and coordinated support while ensuring she was personally escorted to the correct gate.

What stayed with me most was the sense of responsibility and empathy I felt throughout the situation. I understood how overwhelming and stressful airports can be, especially for elderly travelers, and I wanted to make sure she felt supported and cared for. Following up later and confirming that she had successfully boarded her flight gave me a deep sense of satisfaction and pride.

That experience stood out to me because it reflected the kind of leader and person I strive to be — someone who stays calm under pressure, takes initiative without being asked, communicates effectively, and genuinely cares about helping others.

Mentoring a new teammate

Trust from a manager, growth for a teammate.

I was given the opportunity to support and mentor a new team member who had transitioned from a security background and had no prior experience in customer service. My manager intentionally assigned him to work closely with me so he could learn directly from how I approached day-to-day interactions and service delivery.

This experience reflected a strong level of trust from my manager, who saw me as someone capable not only of performing in my role, but also of positively influencing others. I took on the responsibility by guiding him through real scenarios, demonstrating customer service principles in practice, and helping him build confidence in engaging with passengers in a more service-oriented way.

It also reinforced the importance of teamwork, as I worked closely with both him and the wider team to ensure he felt supported rather than overwhelmed during the transition. Seeing him gradually adapt and improve through coaching was rewarding, and it showed me how impactful shared knowledge and consistent support can be in helping others succeed.
